LL-37 is a synthetic 37-amino acid cationic host defense peptide and the only known human cathelicidin, derived from the C-terminal cleavage of the hCAP18 precursor protein encoded by the CAMP gene. In research settings, LL-37 has been studied for its potential role in innate immune defense mechanisms, including broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, antiviral and antifungal properties, immunomodulatory cytokine regulation, and cellular processes related to wound healing, angiogenesis, and epithelial barrier repair.
